Ventilation systems that maintain a constant ambient temperature

Ventilation systems

The evolution of construction systems over the last few decades has allowed for the incorporation of envelopes with thermal insulation in the facades of buildings. Ventilation systems have emerged that meet the need to supply clean air indoors. The current level of airtightness in homes makes a contribution of clean air necessary to ensure the health and comfort of users.

The natural ventilation is based on certain physical principles such as wind pressure or air movement due to temperature differences to ventilate indoor spaces. This system persists in many homes of some age, where clean air was introduced through the poor sealing of doors and windows. It is no longer used today due to its discomfort and the fact that it causes very high energy consumption. It is a system that alters the interior temperature mainly in winter, preventing it from being a constant temperature throughout the air renewal process.

Mechanical ventilation systems may have a natural air inlet or outlet, always combined with a mechanical extraction or propulsion process.

In the mechanical ventilation system with natural extraction, fans are used to allow the admission of air. In this system, the admission is carried out through a fan connected to a duct network. The extraction is done naturally through the grilles located within the humid areas.

Sometimes mechanical ventilation incorporates the admission of air by natural means through adjustable grilles incorporated into the facade. The extraction of contaminated air is carried out by an extractor connected via ducts to the humid areas, from which the contaminated air is extracted to the outside. This system is still used in newly constructed homes and has been one of the most employed systems in the last three decades.

More recently, ventilation systems with mechanical admission and extraction have started to be used. This way, the flows of renewed air are guaranteed. When it comes to centralized systems, a duct network is used for the entire home. Since the air is extracted and introduced in a centralized manner, the flows are equal so the system operates in a balanced manner.

Double Flow Mechanical Ventilation

Constant and controlled ambient temperature

Controlled Mechanical Ventilation (CMV) allows efficient management of energy consumption. Within these systems, the Double Flow Mechanical Ventilation system provides high energy efficiency levels while ensuring a constant ambient temperature and optimal comfort and health conditions. With this system, part of the energy from the extracted air is recovered. The outdoor air is filtered and heated or cooled before its injection into the dry areas (living rooms and bedrooms), while extraction is carried out from the humid areas (bathrooms, kitchens, and toilets).
